The Best Golf Courses in Myrtle Beach
Choosing the best golf courses in Myrtle Beach is a challenge, because there are so many nice courses in the area. Here is my list of the top five courses on the Grand Strand.
1. Dunes Golf & Beach Club. The Dunes Club is a classic Robert Trent Jones design located in Myrtle Beach. From the moment you drive through the gates of this private club, you know you are in for a special round of golf. Walking through the clubhouse you are treated to the history of the golf course, which was the site of several professional golf events, including the Senior PGA Championship. When you get out on the course you are challenged on all eighteen holes. The course is always in excellent shape.
2. Tidewater Golf & Plantation Club. Tidewater is one of the most scenic golf courses in the Myrtle Beach area. It's also one of the most challenging. Located in the Cherry Grove section of North Myrtle Beach, Tidewater has several holes with views of the ocean. It has been called the "Pebble Beach of the East." Tidewater's 4th hole is arguably the best Par 4 hole in the area. Tidewater's Par 5, 13th hole (shown above) ain't too shabby either.
3. Heritage Club. Located on the site of a former rice plantation in Pawleys Island, the Heritage Club features ancient moss-draped live oaks. The back nine has quite a bit of water with plenty of wildlife. Many of the greens are multi-tiered, requiring close attention to approach shots and good imagination around the greens.
4. Oyster Bay. Oyster Bay is a scenic golf course located in Sunset Beach, NC. It features several water and marsh views that are really intriguing, but don't let the scenary distract you as there are plenty of pitfalls to avoid during your round. Be sure to watch out for alligators, as there are plenty that call Oyster Bay their home.
5. Caledonia Golf & Fish Club. Another Pawleys Island course, Caledonia is among the most scenic courses you will find in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. The 18th hole is a great finish to your round as it leads you to the veranda at the course's stately clubhouse overlooking the marshes along the Waccamaw River.
You might take exception to one or two of the courses I have on my list of the best golf courses in Myrtle Beach. Even if you have some of your own favorites to contend with these, I suggest that you include at least one of these great courses on your next Myrtle Beach golf trip.
