Located in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, The Dye Club at Barefoot Resort is one of the top rated golf courses in the Myrtle Beach area.  It has also garnered national recognition as one of the top public courses in the United States.

The Dye Club features typical Pete Dye design characteristics, including many fairway bunkers, pot bunkers, waste bunkers, liberal mounding, and railroad ties.  Water and wetlands also come into play on a number of holes.  The combination of bunkers, wetlands and water features make the course interesting to play, but also visually intimidating and dramatic.

Although you may not expect it, The Dye Club is fair for golfers of all abilities as long as the correct tees are chosen.  As on most Pete Dye designs, thoughtful shot selection will reward well executed shots.  The golf carts are equipped with GPS systems, which the first-time player will find helpful in navigating the course.

My favorite par 3 was the 17th hole, which measured 188-yards from the black tees.  It has wetlands in front and behind the green, two small pot bunkers to the left and a bunker to the right.

It was tough to choose my favorite par 5, as they were all just about equal in quality.  I finally settled on the 526-yard 16th hole.  The tee-shot requires you to carry a waste bunker.  The landing area for the second shot is protected by mounding and bunkers on the right.  It looks a little intimidating, but there's plenty of room for a fairway wood or long iron.  There's a waste bunker on the left as you approach the green which slopes towards the front.

My favorite par 4 was the 471-yard 18th hole which bends left, has mounding on the right and a lake that covers the entire left side.  It's a great finishing hole.

Be sure to include The Dye Club at Barefoot Resort on your next golf trip to Myrtle Beach.
