Oyster Bay Golf Links - Myrtle Beach Golf Course Review

Oyster-Bay-13

Oyster Bay Golf Golf Links, located in Sunset Beach, North Carolina, is one of the most scenic golf courses in the Myrtle Beach area.  The golf course takes perfect advantage of its setting along the Calabash River to provide golfers with an enjoyable round of golf.

Men and women golfers will have fun playing this Par 70 course, which has 4 sets of tees.  It measures 6,685 yards from the "tips" and 4,665 yards from the forward tees.

The front nine has some great holes offering marsh views along the river, while the back nine features lakes and ponds.  As you play the course, don't be surprised if you see large alligators, osprey, wood storks, and other natural Carolina coastal wildlife.

My favorite Par 3 is the 17th hole (left).  This is a short hole (120 yards from the Blue tees), but you are hitting to an island green surrounded by oyster shells, bunkers to the back right and a two-tiered green.  Over the years I've seen some hefty alligators sunning themselves in the small patch of grass in front of the green.  Needless to say, you don't want to hit it short if you see the same thing!

There are three very good Par 5's on this course, but my favorite is the 5th hole (right) because of the scenary.  It's 530 yards from the Blue tees.  It has marshland running down the entire right side, and woods on the left.  The marsh should only come into play on the tee-shot, which requires you to carry it, and avoid it on the right side, too.  The landing area for the tee-short is fairly tight.  With a successful tee-shot, par or birdie should be attainable.

Marketing specials are creating crowded course conditions, which can lead to slow play at the course.  However, I think Oyster Bay Golf Links is one of the must-play courses in the Myrtle Beach area.  It displays scenary that is unique to the coastal Carolina region, and it will keep you interested on all 18 holes.  It's on my list of favorite Myrtle Beach area golf courses, and I think you'll add it to yours after you play it.
